FAQ

What Are RAW Photos?

When photographers talk about **RAW photos**, they’re referring to a **file format**, not whether an image has been edited or not. A RAW file contains **all of the unprocessed data straight from the camera’s sensor**, which gives me the maximum flexibility to adjust color, lighting, and detail during the editing process.

Because RAW files are large and require special software to open, they are **not the same as a finished photo** and are not typically shared as part of a standard gallery or package.

### **RAW vs. Unedited Photos**

Many clients hear the word *RAW* and think it means *unedited*. These are actually two different things:

* **RAW Photo:**
A camera file format that includes full sensor data. Not viewable on most devices without special software and not meant for everyday use.

* **Unedited Photo (JPEG/Other Format):**
A normal image file that has not been edited yet. You can easily open it on any phone or computer.

### **Why This Matters**

If you’re asking about receiving RAW files, I want to make sure we’re talking about the same thing. Some clients mean they want **all unedited images**, while others specifically want **RAW camera files**. These are two completely different types of requests.

To avoid confusion, please let me know exactly which one you’re referring to:

* **“Unedited photos”** – regular images straight out of the camera, not yet edited.
* **“RAW files”** – camera sensor files requiring special software.

If you’re ever unsure, just ask! I’m always happy to explain the options so you get exactly what you need.
